Addison is an incorporated town in Dallas County, Texas, United States. The population was 16,661 as of the 2010 census. Addison is situated to the immediate north of the city of Dallas and has a 2020 census population estimate of 34,000 residents.
The land occupied by present-day Addison was settled as early as 1846 when Preston Witt built a house near White Rock Creek. The town of Addison began to take shape in the late 1800s, and it officially became a municipality in 1895. At that time, the population was just over 1,000 people. Today, there are more than 10,000 residents in Addison thanks to its thriving business community and rich history.
In 1902, the community of Addison named itself after postmaster Addison Robertson. At the time, it was just a small farming and shipping town with a cotton gin – its first industry. Over the years, Addison has grown into one of Texas’s most vibrant and diverse communities. It now boasts a thriving economy driven by major industries such as healthcare, technology, education, biotechnology and tourism.
